Faculty: SIRJE VIRKUS
Sirje Virkus has been a teacher in the field of library and information science since 1985. She became the Head of the Department of Information Studies at Tallinn University in Estonia in 1998.
She has been involved in open and distance learning (ODL) and in examining the role of libraries in ODL since 1994. She has served as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Library and Learning Support Group of European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU) and as a representative of the Estonian Information Technology Foundation and Estonian e-University on the Board of EADTU. Her research interests focus on information competence developments in European higher open and distance learning. She is completing her Ph.D. on this topic at Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom.
Sirje Virkus has published over 150 articles and is a frequent speaker at professional conferences.
